Legacy modernization propels UK bank to migrate from IBM COBOL to Microfocus COBOL

The client

Our client is a large UK bank offering a comprehensive range of financial products and services to its customers.

Business Challenge

Seeking to enhance scalability, agility, and cost-effectiveness, the bank embarked on a journey to migrate its core banking platform from the confines of a mainframe system to the vast and open expanses of the cloud. This transformative endeavor demanded meticulous planning and execution to ensure the seamless migration of critical applications and sensitive data, while meticulously addressing compatibility issues, data security concerns, and the intricate integrations with legacy systems.

Coforge Solution

Coforge helped the bank re-engineer their corporate environment to enhance and streamline its digital banking services, migrating from IBM Mainframe COBOL to Microfocus COBOL and DB2 to Oracle on a UNIX platform. All modules and APIs were updated for the migration and pointed to the new endpoints to refer to the Oracle DB instead of DB2. The new environment runs on a UNIX platform which enables it to be hosted on Cloud. Coforge development, testing and production support teams ensured successful migration and continue to support the new environment in production.

The Coforge application production support teams worked relentlessly to address all the issues raised during the first week of migration and stabilized the environment in production as soon as possible and ensured business continuity.

The Coforge team is working on various month end/year end/tax year end activities to support smooth functioning of the bank.

Coforge along with the bank set up various Metrics (SLOs, SLAs and KPIs) and Governance in place to review the health of support on a regular basis (Daily/Weekly/Monthly) and bridge any gaps in service.
