Digitizing Catering Control Management System 

Synopsis

The client had an Enterprise Mobility System that was unable to meet the production capacity of the catering centers. The key objective of the client was to implement a flexible and scalable system for a digital workforce. Coforge was approached to develop a paper-less system to improve flight preparations processes, enhance accuracy of meal items, improve staff responsiveness, and provide real-time data. Coforge developed a holistic solution for the client; providing desktop and mobile applications. The solution removed the dependency on SAP system, reduced manual transcribing efforts, and provided a seamless interface final passenger load and special meals (SPML) for billing purposes.

About the client

The client is a leading ground-handling & in-flight catering services provider, with more than 1,00,000 meals rolled out daily the client is responsible for providing catering services to more than 50 + airlines around the world.

Business Challenge

The client had implemented an Enterprise Mobility System to streamline and improve the existing operational workflow. Over time the period, production capacity of the catering centers increased by over 30% and the Enterprise Mobility System was unable to meet all the business requirements and required enhancements. The need of the hour was to have a flexible and scalable system that would digitally enable the workforce of the client to achieve the following objectives:

  • Improve the process of flight preparations and handling of additional meals
  • Enhance the accuracy of meal items uplifted
  • Improve the responsiveness of staff with regard to flights preparation and handling of the last-minute meals order
  • Improve the staff collaboration with real-time information exchange via a web-based solution
  • Making majority of the process paper-less by providing real-time information via mobile devices

Our Solution

Approximately 200 concurrent users were supported by the solution and could access the system via both Desktop and Mobile devices. The system interfaces with other systems in the IT landscape seamlessly to enable near real-time sharing of information. The new system was implemented in two phases.

Phase 1 had the following modules:

  • Flight Checkout Sheet Generation
  • Meal Load Adjustment and Meal Top-Up Module
  • Packing List Module
  • Picture Display for Food Material Item Function

In Phase II, the following modules/functionalities were provided:

  • Kitchen Display Module 
  • Inventory Module
  • Food Assembly Assistant Module
  • Cabin Handling Officer Module
  • Assist Duty Room (ADR) Module
  • Operation Assistant Delivery (OAD) Module
