Improving User Experience using Near-field communications (NFC)

Introduction

Contactless NFC (near-field communication) technology allows for secure wireless communication between devices over short distances, and it can be used to improve the customer experience in a variety of industries.

Here are a few ways companies can use contactless NFC to improve their customer’s experience, as well as some use cases from different industries:

  1. Payment processing: In the retail industry, contactless NFC can be used to improve the payment processing experience for customers. Instead of having to swipe or insert a card into a terminal, customers can simply tap their contactless-enabled card or mobile device on the terminal to make a payment. This can make the checkout process faster and more convenient for customers.

  2. Access control: In the hospitality industry, contactless NFC can be used to improve the check-in and check-out experience for guests. Instead of having to carry around a physical key or card, guests can use their contactless-enabled mobile device to access their hotel room. This can make the check-in and check-out process faster and more convenient for guests.

  3. Identity verification: In the healthcare industry, contactless NFC can be used to improve the patient check-in experience. Instead of having to fill out paperwork or show ID, patients can use their contactless-enabled healthcare card or mobile device to verify their identity and access their medical records. This can make the
check-in process faster and more convenient for patients.

  4. Public transportation: In the transportation industry, contactless NFC can be used to improve the experience for customers using public transportation. Instead of having to carry around a physical card or ticket, customers can use their contactless-enabled mobile device to purchase tickets, access the transportation system, and make payments. This can make the process of using public transportation faster and more convenient for customers.

  5. Loyalty programs: In the retail industry, contactless NFC can be used to improve the customer experience by enabling customers to participate in loyalty programs. Instead of having to carry around a physical card, customers can use their contactless-enabled mobile device to participate in loyalty programs and earn rewards. This can make the process of participating in loyalty programs faster and more convenient for customers.

  6. Patient experience: In the healthcare industry, contactless NFC can improve the patient experience by enabling them to access their medical records, book appointments, and communicate with their doctor remotely, this can save patients time and make the healthcare experience more convenient.

  7. Smart tags on equipment: Airport’s have tagged kiosks with NFC tags. On noticing a malfunctioning kiosk, airport staff need only tap their phone on a designated spot on the kiosk and an app on their phone can directly raise a ticket with minimum data entry.

In the next part of this series, we'll dive deeper into the technology aspects & high level approach of leveraging micro frontends to implement composable architecture at the front end.
