A North American digital health startup providing at-home mental health treatment programs faced compounding challenges in its remote care delivery platform. Inadequate security measures, gaps in HIPAA compliance, fragile third-party integrations, and the absence of meaningful reporting capabilities were slowing feature delivery and affecting patient engagement. Left unaddressed, these challenges posed a direct risk to patient data security, regulatory compliance, and the organization's competitive position in a rapidly evolving digital healthcare market. They engaged Coforge to modernize the platform end-to-end.

The Challenge

For a digital health platform delivering at-home treatment to patients across diverse demographics, platform reliability and data security are inseparable from care quality. Patients and providers depend on consistent, secure communication across every channel. The existing platform could not reliably support this.

Security measures were inadequate, and HIPAA compliance was incomplete, creating regulatory exposure around the handling of sensitive patient data. Third-party integrations were fragile, introducing failure points in the care delivery workflow. The absence of dashboards and reporting capabilities meant the team was making product and operational decisions without data.

Deployment cycles were slow and manual, taking two weeks per release. This constrained the organization's ability to respond to evolving patient needs and delayed feature delivery, even as the digital health market was moving quickly. The combined effect of these challenges was to slow growth and reduce patient engagement at a critical stage for the business.

Our Approach

Coforge modernized the platform end-to-end, addressing security, compliance, infrastructure automation, and reporting across the full stack on AWS.

Scalable Cloud Infrastructure on AWS

Coforge deployed Amazon EKS to manage scalable Kubernetes clusters with ephemeral environments, enabling faster, more secure testing and deployments. Amazon EC2 with Elastic Load Balancer provided high availability and auto-scaling across production and development environments. Amazon RDS hosted critical databases within private VPCs, with encryption at rest and in transit for HIPAA compliance.

Omni-Channel Patient Communication

AWS SNS, SQS, and SES were integrated to provide reliable, secure omni-channel communication between patients and providers at scale. Amazon Lambda and Amazon S3 automated data processing and storage tasks, reducing infrastructure overhead and supporting consistent communication workflows across the platform.

DevSecOps and Infrastructure Automation

Coforge implemented Infrastructure as Code using Terraform for rapid, repeatable environment provisioning. Jenkins and GitHub Actions streamlined CI/CD pipelines, automating build, test, and deployment processes. Automated testing frameworks covering unit, integration, visual, and performance tests ensured every commit met quality standards before reaching production.

Reporting, Monitoring, and Observability

Amazon CloudWatch was configured for comprehensive real-time monitoring and logging across the platform, enabling proactive issue resolution and strengthening reliability. Dashboards and reporting were built to provide the organization with actionable visibility into product usage, patient engagement, and operational performance.

Business Impact

  • Deployment time fell from two weeks to four hours, a 98% reduction, enabling the team to release features and respond to patient needs at the pace the market required.

  • Enhanced platform features drove a 20% increase in weekly patient repurchase rates within three months of rollout, directly improving patient retention and engagement.

  • The mobile application became the primary engagement channel, capturing nearly 70% of user traffic, supported by the reliability and performance of the modernized platform.

  • HIPAA-compliant infrastructure with encrypted databases, private VPCs, and automated security controls addressed the regulatory gaps in the existing platform.

  • AWS-powered dashboards and reporting gave the team clear, actionable insights into product usage and patient engagement, enabling data-driven decisions for the first time.

  • Omni-channel communication via SNS, SQS, and SES ensured consistent, secure patient-provider interactions across all channels at scale.

The organization now operates a secure, scalable, HIPAA-compliant platform that supports its mission to improve mental health outcomes at scale. From infrastructure automation to patient communication to compliance, Coforge delivered a comprehensive modernization of the care delivery platform, underpinned by deep AWS expertise and an understanding of the demands of digital health operations.
