A leading provider of secure identity verification solutions, operating across airports and major events across the United States, faced an existential challenge as the COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted its core travel and hospitality market. The organization identified an opportunity in healthcare, requiring a rapid pivot to develop a new product that enables the secure exchange of health records between users and labs while maintaining and strengthening its travel platform. They engaged Coforge to deliver both workstreams simultaneously, at speed.

The Challenge

For an identity verification platform built on trust and security, expanding into healthcare introduced a new layer of regulatory complexity. Health records required adherence to FHIR protocols and healthcare privacy regulations, adapting to labs operating on non-standard data exchange formats, all within an aggressive delivery timeline driven by pandemic urgency.

The organization needed to deliver a production-ready healthcare product in a fraction of the time required for typical product releases, without compromising security, compliance, or data integrity. Simultaneously, it needed to ensure its core travel platform continued to evolve, as the travel sector represented a critical long-term focus.

Speed to market was not optional. Sports leagues, businesses, and organizations were actively seeking solutions to resume operations safely. Missing this window would have meant ceding the healthcare opportunity entirely at a moment of significant market need.

Our Approach

Coforge delivered cloud engineering, product management, and security capabilities across both the healthcare pivot and the travel platform simultaneously, working within the organization's aggressive delivery timeline.

Cloud-Native Healthcare Product Development

Coforge developed a cloud-based architecture using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and Cognito to build secure, scalable applications for healthcare identity and health record exchange. Secure data flows were designed to handle health record exchange, adhering to FHIR standards, with adapters built for labs operating on non-standard protocols.

CI/CD Automation and Test Coverage

Coforge used AWS CI/CD tools to automate and streamline the deployment of new features across both healthcare and travel workstreams. Extensive automated testing, including unit and behavior tests, ensured that both applications were secure, reliable, and performant throughout rapid development cycles.

Travel Platform Continuity and Enhancement

While the healthcare product was built in parallel, Coforge applied the same architectural upgrades to the core travel platform, ensuring identity verification at airports and events remained seamless and secure. Both workstreams benefited from a unified approach to security and platform architecture.

Security, Compliance, and Platform Resilience

The AWS-powered architecture delivered an estimated 99.95% platform availability while handling traffic spikes without performance degradation. Enhanced security protocols reduced API vulnerabilities by an estimated 40%, and the serverless architecture optimized infrastructure costs by an estimated 30% compared to a VM-based alternative.

Business Impact

  • The healthcare product launched in 3 months, an estimated 50% faster than previous product releases, enabling organizations, including sports leagues and businesses, to resume operations safely.
  • The platform achieved an estimated 99.95% availability, handling traffic spikes at major events without performance degradation.
  • Enhanced security protocols reduced API vulnerabilities by an estimated 40%, strengthening data protection across both healthcare and travel identity use cases.
  • Serverless architecture delivered an estimated 30% infrastructure cost savings compared to a VM-based approach, with Lambda and DynamoDB's pay-per-use model optimizing spend.
  • Automated scaling increased platform capacity by an estimated 200%, critical for handling demand surges at major events.
  • The travel platform was simultaneously enhanced, ensuring identity verification services remained competitive and secure as the travel sector began to recover.

The organization successfully navigated a period of significant market disruption by expanding into healthcare without sacrificing its core travel business. From rapid product development to compliance to platform resilience, Coforge delivered across both workstreams on AWS, demonstrating the pace and depth of its engineering capability when required.
